Research In Motion announced that its security tool, Mobile Fusion, devices will be available for Android and iOS . As a result, large companies may use other smartphone operating systems and maintain the same security standard that RIM offers today in their BlackBerry 's. The initiative is welcome to IT managers, who now have a dedicated application to the area of corporate security. Currently, research indicates that employees of companies are choosing to use their personal smartphones to work rather than BlackBerry's. Before, it took several security solutions working together to ensure that an iPhone, iPad or Android device to be as safe as a BlackBerry is.
The decision by Research in Motion also shows a clear effort by the company to adapt to the changing landscape of mobile devices in the enterprise. The company knows that the BlackBerry phones are losing ground rapidly inside the offices, and explore other solutions within the mobile segment is critical to survival in this dispute.
The new software is a result of the acquisition of Ubitexx by RIM in May this year. The Ubitexx specializes in mobile device management, and time of completion of the deal, the Canadian company said the purchase of the new company would offer the service features BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) for the iPhone and Android devices.
Mobile Fusion can provide important security features, and removal with remote lock lost or stolen devices, and allows the IT department to manage access rules for applications, as well as passwords. The tool will also work with the recent improvements applied to the BES.
The expected launch of Fusion Mobile is at the end of March 2012. RIM does not comment on the price of the new service, but says it will be a competitive value when compared to direct competitors, such as MobileIron and BoxTone.
